The wires are 0.9mm in diameter and supported by stainless steel posts.)

Seagulls and Pigeons: The Facts

Seagull

-    There are approximately 18 million pigeons in the UK

-    They are known as Britain’s most hated bird with nicknames like rats with wings, sky rats, gutter birds, flying ashtrays

-    The Mayor of London is making legal history by going to court to make illegal to feed birds in Trafalgar square

-    But when it comes to hating pigeons the focus of most peoples dislike is the feral pigeon. It is a domesticated rock dove that has returned to wild and semi wild conditions

-    It is usually grey and can be seen in most villages, towns and cities across the UK and Europe

-    Pigeons on a roof can reduce the roof life by 20% or more

The Law

Birds cannot be killed or their nests destroyed in order to protect the fabric of a building. It is illegal to kill birds because they are soiling a building or causing damage to the building. The property owner must in a court of law that lethal control was used as a last resort because bird control products had failed. If the property owner is found to have used lethal controls simply to resolve an unsightly soiling problem on a building, prosecution will follow. Any building or site can be protected in order to resolve a bird- related problem and therefore there should never be a situation where lethal controls are even considered yet alone provided. The property owner has a staggering number of deterrents, bird exclusion devices and anti roosting products to choose from, most of which are humane, non-lethal and 100% effective.
